What’s A GO Team?

A GO team is a mission trip ranging from a few days to a whole week.

You'll get your meals made for you, sleep in a church member's house, and be put to work doing leaflet distribution, door-to-door, street evangelism, holiday bible club, care-home work, manual labour and any other thing the church can think of.

If they feel like being easy on you, you might even get an activity of some kind, like bowling, roller skating, water sports, a trip to the beach, or a tour of reformation history sites.

It's a time to be spiritually blessed, utterly immersed in Christian work, and to be a spiritual blessing the congregation you're going to support.

Theres no better way you can spend a week, or multiple weeks of your summer.

Does It Cost?

All teams are completely and utterly FREE. You won't have to pay to attend, eat, or sleep (though it's good to get your hosts some kind of gift). For the Scottish teams, the travel costs are covered, so don't feel like those are out of reach.

This is pretty uncommon in the wider church, so take advantage.

Who Goes On Them?

Go teams are open to anyone 16+ (though some specify 18+).

There's no upper age limit, so even your grandpa is welcome. I've done teams where I was the oldest, and the next week, I was with a group where I was the young one. It's a wide spread.

Most people will be between 16 and 22 and different teams attract different age ranges depending on their location and time of year.

They're also not restricted to just RPs. If you want to serve somewhere but don't want to pay to spend a week working, you're welcome to come.

Ultimately, if you're not sure, just apply. Even if you know no one, you'll quickly get to know your team.

When Are They?

The first team in Airdrie, Scotland, starts in April. Most teams are then spread around different weeks in the summer, with the other Scottish team, Stranraer, being in the October holiday.

Check the website for all the dates.

How Many Can I Do?

There's no limit on how many you can do. The main limiting factor is the human body. Surprisingly, you can't be in two places at once, and there are often teams that overlap on days.

However I did seven in one year and I can assure you that is too many. I wouldn't recommend doing more than two weeks of activities in a row; your body just can't keep up and you can quickly become a burden.

Do consider going on a team, even if that means losing out on a week's wages or time playing the new Fortnite season. I promise you will cherish your memories serving far more than whatever you would've been doing. I am only living in Belfast because I met friends on GO teams and moved in with them. You don’t know how your life could change…

Especially consider the Scottish teams, they often have small numbers and could use more help.
